I was born in Inglewood, California and raised in the San Fernando Valley. I relocated to Arizona in 1990. I have been teaching for twenty-five years, and this is my fifth year at ASU Preparatory Academy. My past teaching experience includes teaching for three years in the Tempe School District, seven years in the Kyrene School District, and ten years in the Chandler Unified District. Over the past years, I have taught grades K-4th. I graduated from Arizona State University with a BA in Early Childhood Education. I am a true ASU fan! I have two teenagers that are constantly keeping me busy. My son is a college freshman at NAU, and my daughter is a high school junior. In my spare time I enjoy traveling, shopping, walking my dogs, and hanging out at Starbucks.
I am so excited to be teaching first grade in the 1-2 cluster this year. Teaching the primary grades is my true love. My teaching style is described as “a gentle but firm”. I am very nurturing and my students know what is expected of them. I have a very structured learning environment complete with set routines. I enjoy teaching Cambridge and Common Core subjects to my students. I provide a variety of hands-on learning, as well as active participation within my classroom.
It is my belief that positive interaction between school and home strengthens the feeling of support all children need for success in school.
I'm looking forward to a great year!
