It was great to see you all at summative last night! I hope you enjoyed seeing all your child's hard work. I think they are ready to head to third grade- though I will miss them! We are in the final stretch and want to keep up the hard work!
Classroom supplies needed: band-aids (we are all out!) and treasure box prizes.
Next week is also Teacher Appreciation. I've already had a few of you asking about things I like: Target, Amazon, Jamba Juice, any kind of ice cream, butterfingers, peanut butter m&m's, and oreos. Please don't forget about your specials teachers also!!

Happy 3-day weekend! Thank you for all the delicious treats I received yesterday- I definitely felt the love! We have another field trip coming up, so please be on the lookout for more information later next week.
Kids Heart Challenge
Last week your child received their Kids Heart Challenge flyer (Formerly known as Jump Rope for Heart). Here’s a message from Coach Fahey:
We have officially kicked off our Kids Heart Challenge program and our school's big event is right around the corner! Last year, we jumped rope for heart and this year we’re kicking off the all-new Kids Heart Challenge! It’s a totally reimagined program with more ways for kids to get heart healthy, more incentives for participating schools like ours and an easier to manage experience for parents. That’s a lot of “MORE!
First things first! We have an easy way for you to raise money online by having your very own fundraising page. Simply follow these steps:

Happy Kindness Week! Mrs. Olsen (Art teacher) is in need of wet wipes if you are willing to donate.
The week of January 28th to January 31st is Kindness Week. We will be having a money war among all the grade levels. We are collecting money to donate to the “Kind Coins for Liberia”. Coins count for our class and dollar bills count against us (we still encourage students to send dollars to put in another grade level cluster’s bucket). We are trying to collect the most coins/dollars for our 1-2 cluster and win!
In addition, NJHS will be selling kindness grams on the playground before school. Each gram is .50 cents and all proceeds will go to the “Kind Coins for Liberia” fund.
We will be celebrating kindness week with a spirit week on:
January 28th-31st
Monday – Hat’s off to Kindness
Tuesday – Crazy for Kindness
Wednesday – Team up to Clean up
Thursday – Dollar dress Down

A few parents are organizing and planning our class Christmas Party, so please be on the lookout for a SignUp Genius to donate supplies and volunteer. Thanks for all your help!

Hard to believe we are in the last week of quarter 1! The conference schedule opens on Saturday, so please be sure to sign up for a time to meet with me. I also sent home field trip permission slips last Friday. Please be sure to turn those in no later than Thursday, September 27th. I will choose my chaperones this week and send home notification if you were chosen.

Happy 3-day weekend!! I hope you all enjoy the extra day off with your kids. We have had a busy week! We learned all about bats and compared them to other types of bats/animals. We also dove head first into the first week of our Government unit, where students were reading, asking questions, and annotating text as they read.
The book fair is this week so be sure to stop by before or after school for some new books!
Spelling words will be posted here again on Monday (Tuesday), so please look for those.
I sent home Dreambox logins/information last week. Hopefully students are enjoying using the website and are able to figure it out. Homework menus will come home on Tuesday, and I will check folders and notebooks every Friday. If your child doesn't bring their notebook, or there is nothing written in it, they will lose Fun Friday time. Nightly requirements consist of math facts and reading- the menu is for additional practice but not mandatory. Please email me with any questions.

4 weeks down! We are ready to start our first unit of Benchmark, as well as reading groups next week. Homework will start the week after (the first week of September). Please be reading and practicing math facts nightly, as the homework menus are just optional for those who would like additional practice.
We are in the process of booking field trips, and will let you know dates within a month of the trip.
If you haven't already, please sign up to help us grade math facts over the weekend. There are still some spots available!

Spelling words will be starting on Monday. I will post the spelling list on here every Monday so you have access, and your child's pretest will be sent home. We will have a spelling test every Friday, so please practice the words throughout the week for homework. The words will gradually get harder, so please be sure to start the habit of practicing now, even if the words are easy for your child. Thank you!!

Picture day is this Wednesday, August 22nd. Students need to wear school uniforms. The forms were sent home on Thursday, and several ended up on the floor, so please let me know if you didn't receive them and I will send an extra home. I also sent Scholastic book catalogs home if you choose to purchase books and help support our class.
Thank you for all the treasure box and craft supply donations. We are now fully stocked!

Happy Friday! With all the midnight storms waking me up this week, I am looking forward to a restful weekend, and hope you all are doing the same with your families! I know I'm bragging, but I think I have the best class in the school, and I absolutely love having your kids! Week 2 was filled with get to know you activities among the kids, practicing our Daily 5 rotations (Read to Self, Read to Someone and Word Work), and doing some good writing.
If you were unable to attend curriculum night, the Powerpoint is posted on our Weebly Home page. Hopefully your questions were answered and you feel confident knowing your child will be successful this year.
We are still in need of a some treasure box donations, so please send those in if you can- thank you!!

We made it through the first week of school! I have enjoyed getting to know all of your kids this week and am excited for the school year, and all the learning and fun that are to come! Thank you for your generous supply donations, and for the many happy birthday wishes and gifts I received!
K-5 Curriculum Night is this Tuesday, August 7th from 5:30-6:30pm. If you cannot attend, we will post the powerpoint on our weebly page. Also, if you have children in multiple grades, because presentations are at the same time, we recommend going to the oldest child's presentation since it will be brand new information for that child, and somewhat familiar for those who have already had children come through 1st and 2nd grade.
Please remember to send your child's water bottle daily as it's super hot!! We are hoping the new playground will be done very soon- I know the kids are super excited! I still need treasure box donations if anyone is willing to send some in (nothing edible).
Thank you!

Welcome back!! (2018-2019)
It was great meeting you at open house/orientation and I hope you all had a wonderful summer! Please be sure to send students with all supplies during the first few days of school, and turn in all forms by August 1st. This will be our main form of communication, and I will update it weekly with important dates, information, and news. If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at [email protected].
Please reinforce your child's book box with LOTS of duct tape, as they will not last long otherwise. Decorate the box however your child wants, and they will be shared during the first week of school.
For more information about me, please click on my name in the drop down menu, where you will see a little bio of myself. I look forward to a wonderful school year and can't wait to get to know your children!
