Hello Families!
Thank you for spoiling me last week. I definitely feel appreciated! Your generosity was overwhelming, many thanks to all of you!
It has truly been a wonderful year, I can't believe it is coming to an end. Thank you for your help and support all year long!
Please be sure to send a water bottle with your child.
Important upcoming dates:
May 24th-Last day of school Dismissal 11:30

Thank you for your support!
Mrs. Mendoza
Important upcoming dates:
November 22nd-23rd-Thanksgiving Holiday
November 30th-Holiday boutique
We had a great first week of quarter two! Thank you for all of your support at home. It is obvious that students are practicing spelling words and reading at home. Thank you for signing behavior calendars nightly as well.
Please re-enroll your student(s) for the 2019-20 school year.
Failure to return intent to re-enroll form by November 21, 2018, will result in your student(s) not being guaranteed enrollment at ASU Prep for the 2019-2020 school year.
Junior Achievement Volunteers Needed
Junior Achievement is a program that helps students realize the education they are getting today will help them have a bright future tomorrow. JA’s unique, volunteer delivered programs show them all of the possibilities that lay before them.
We are still looking for quality volunteers from the community to come into our (Grade Level) classrooms to deliver hands-on lessons that inspire students to understand the opportunities provided by education.
Volunteers do not need to know anything about Junior Achievement; they will be provided with any training they need. Volunteers will need to be able to dedicate one hour of their time a week for approximately 6 weeks. If you are interested in volunteering or would like to know more about it, please contact Christie Fahey at[email protected]
SPELLING - On Monday, students will bring home the spelling words for the week. Also, we will upload a spelling list to this weebly page every Monday. Please create good habits to study spelling words, the words will get more difficult as the units progress.
As our school year gets started, I would like to share some thoughts about grades. At ASU Prep, we use standards based grading. That means your child may receive an approaches, a meets, or an exceeds on their assignments. An approaches simply means your child has not mastered the standard yet. Many times, they are not expected to have mastered it yet, they are still working on it, they just need more exposure and more time. Keep in mind, it is the beginning of the year and an approaches is not meant to be seen as a negative grade. When a student masters a standard they will earn a "meets" on the work that shows their understanding of the concept. If your child receives a "falls below" grade, they will continue to receive help to improve their understanding of the concept or standard. It may also mean they are not following directions or putting forth the effort needed. Exceeds means your child has mastered the second grade standard completely and is working at a 3rd grade level within that standard. This is not necessarily a traditional way of grading, I understand it can be confusing. Please let me know if you have any questions.
