Welcome to first grade!
Hello! My name is Carrie Caviness and I am very excited to be your child's 1st grade teacher. This will be my second year teaching at ASU. I have three boys that attend ASU Prep – Ethan is in 4th grade, Isaac is in 2nd grade and Caleb is in preschool. We are excited to all be at ASU Prep together!
I was born and raised in Iowa and moved with my husband and kids to Arizona in 2012. I have a BA in Elementary and Early Childhood Education from the University of Northern Iowa and a MA in Education and a Reading Endorsement from Morningside College. In Iowa, I taught Kindergarten for 7 years, was a Literacy Strategist for 1 year, and a district-wide Curriculum Director for 5 years. These experiences, along with being a stay-at-home mom for 5 years, have all had positive impacts on my teaching. I love working with budding readers and fostering a love of learning for all my students.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my husband, children, and two dogs. I love to spend time outside – hiking, walking the dogs, running, biking, swimming, playing sports with my kids, and watching my kids play league sports.
I am excited for the first day of school and am looking forward to getting to know all of you and your families.
